Airventures Alaska - Air Taxi and Guide Service - Other Adventures

After landing on the Bar 10 Ranches private airstrip, you will be shuttled to the lodge. Here you will experience the grandeur and history of the Grand Canyon and Arizona Strip. From towering vistas and majestic canyons, you will descend back in time as you traverse the heart of the Grand Canyon. You will learn the colorful history of Indians, ranchers, homesteaders, and outlaws who inhabited and hid out in this primitive land. Travel into the inner gorge riding your own ATV or as a passenger in Bar 10 Ranch’s stretch ranger. Witness the amazing array of color as the evening sun sets on the wall of the Grand Canyon. Two nights are spent at the Bar 10 Ranch.

On the third morning, you and your group will board your private Cessna 185 for a breathtaking flight across the Grand Canyon to the West rim where you will land at the Grand Canyon West Airport. Here you will board a shuttle to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

Grand Canyon Skywalk at Grand Canyon West voted the “Best New Bridge” by Travel + Leisure Magazine. The skywalk is the only place where visitors can step out onto a glass walkway nearly 4000 feet above the floor of the Grand Canyon. The Skywalk won by a large margin in the United States and beat out all other daring bridges around the world.

After viewing the canyon, skywalk and having lunch you will then board your aircraft for a one hour scenic flight to Sedona, Arizona. Here you will check into one of Sedona’s fine B&B’s for two nights in this beautiful desert Southwest town.

"The Red Rock City"

Located at the base of Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona is renowned for its stunning red buttes and monoliths, as well as its surrounding lush forests. Sedona is located in both Coconino and Yavapai Counties and is completely surrounded by the Coconino National Forest. Sedona has become a center for traditional and contemporary arts and offers a variety of galleries, boutiques and specialty shops.

Sedona's main attraction is its array of red sandstone formations, the Red Rocks of Sedona. The formations appear to glow in brilliant orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun. The Red Rocks form a popular backdrop for many activities, ranging from spiritual pursuits to the hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails.

On the second day, we will shuttle West to the town of Clarkdale, Arizona to board the Verde Canyon Railroad. Opened in 1912 as the Verde Valley Railway, it was built to support the copper mines at Jerome, Arizona. The Santa Fe Railway operated and owned the 38-mile (61 km) branch line from 1912 to 1989, providing coal to the Phoenix Cement Company, and shipping copper and cement outbound.

After the scenic 3 to 4 hour train ride, take a stroll thru the historic town of Clarkdale, Arizona.

Located at the base of Cleopatra Hill,  Clarkdale, Arizona is a former company town located in the Verde Valley. Founded by William A. Clark, the owner of one of Jerome, Arizona's largest copper mines, Clarkdale was one of the country's best "company" towns. Clarkdale was a "company town" owned by the United Verde Copper Company and provided housing and services for its employees who worked in the nearby smelter. Mining operations were discontinued in 1953 and Clarkdale was incorporated in 1957

Today the old smelter lies quiet and Clarkdale is best described as a bedroom community, its downtown now occupied by antique shops and restaurants rather than grocery, hardware stores and meat markets. After your days events, head back to your B&B for a relaxing dinner.

The next day board your aircraft for a 1 ½ hour flight across breathtaking scenery of the “Painted Desert” to Goulding’s Lodge located in Monument Valley, Utah.

Here you will check in and relax on your own private balcony and savor the spectacular views of Monument Valley, including Eagle Mesa, Brigham’s Tomb, King On His Throne and Stagecoach, just to name a few. This day is a free day for you to relax, hike and/or shop in the “historic” Goulding’s Trading Post. The next day after breakfast, depart at 9:00am for an all day tour of Mystery and Monument Valley. Visit many fascinating sites where the Abasazi, “The Ancient Ones”, have left their homes and rock art as a reminder of their habitation of, and then mysterious disappearance from the area. After Mystery Valley, you will enjoy a barbecued hamburger lunch (choice of vegetarian available upon request) at a private cookout site. The tour will then proceed on to cover the entire scope of Monument Valley, including the restricted area. Approximate duration of tour is 8 hours.

After the sun has set on another perfect, relax and enjoy a nice dinner in Goulding’s Stagecoach Dining Room overlooking Monument Valley’s spectacular view of one of Mother Nature’s unique creations. This is the same vista that John Wayne, John Ford and Henry Fonda made famous.

The next day, after a hearty breakfast, board your aircraft for a 2 ½ hour scenic flight back to Henderson (Las Vegas), Nevada.
